I recently switched from my vx6900 to a blackberry pearl that I got from a friend from work. And before I switched to my BB pearl, I actually upgraded my vx to windows mobile 6.5 which had a nice interface. Along 6.5 I put a launchable version of android 1.5 via windows mobile itself.
I gave my vx to my brother while he got his replacement phone not too long ago. And while he’s not too tech savvy, he actually loved 6.5. He didn’t try android portion of it but I wonder now, how is 6.5 versus a native version of android 2.0? Ill try to make a vlog about this.

After getting a new case and a new power supply, I asked myself what am I going name this monster? I realize its actually common in IT, science and engineering to have a naming scheme for their employees’s computers and servers. It might be dull by assigning the name by first and last name to the computer but in other cases, naming schemes go by famous figures, movie characters or etc. My mentor named all his machines by famous people in the science and engineering fields with the letter “f.” At work we use Transfomers and Peanuts characters, which isn’t bad because refering to the server as Server042 does get confusing/boring comparative to “Snoopy” the ADC. These names do have a sublime meaning or role in the cases I have come across. For example, when named Ford the VM in my mentor’s lab, it’s purpose was to build a website which would go through many changes by progress from alpha to production which reminded me of a factory production line. I think this applies in other fields, other than computers. Take a look at boats and their names. There’s a human aspect to everything; being that said Ill probably go with Aston Martin’s Vanquish because its heavy and flashy (literally). I guess this will add to my naming scheme at home of car models.

I just like to note that this was article was inspired by an Slashdot article I’ve read a while ago.

<del datetime="2009-08-13T01:26:36+00:00"> http://ubuntu.ionz.org</del> (See bottom)

Well I’m kinda annoyed of the performance of the ubuntu mirrors recently so I decided rsync them and create my own mirror. I don’t think I will make this an official Ubuntu mirror because it would cause a lot of strain on my hosting company and I’m pretty there is TOS violation somewhere in the clause about this haha. Also it’s gonna take upward of 200GBs on my home folder which is a lot…

If anyone is interested making their own ubuntu distro mirror check out this wiki page & if you have the resources to make a official mirror check this out

Gentoo mirror on the works? (I would need +400GBs on top of the +200GBs)
cheers

EDIT:
After Receiving an e-mail from my webhosting company’s support about the mirror, I decided to shutdown the mirror until I can sort this out. Apparently, it was causing strain on I/O resources for the server that my site is hosted on. If anyone has a suggestion for me, I’m open to it.’m

If you one of those guys rejoiced when you finally jailbroke your itouch 2g, you end up realizing you can’t sync your itouch 2G or iphone 3G in linux. The reason behind the this mishap is because the iphones/itouches of with the 2.x firmware changed up the hash scheme from 16 to 64bits. So it messed up the gtkpod and amarok in the process…so being that said lets revert back to the old db!

So there’s a solution…

If you ssh into iphone/itouch or use Terminal within, you can edit like this

pico /System/Library/Lockdown/Checkpoint.xml

and find within the Checkpoint.xml file for…

<key>DBVersion</key>
<integer>4</integer>

To…..

<key>DBVersion</key>
<integer>2</integer>

Restart your iphone/itouch and celebrate like I did :S

Oh yeah for further info on how to sync your songs over check here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PortableDevices/iPhone
Gentoo Users just mount the iphone/itouch with sshfs on /media/ipod
i.e.

mount -t sshfs root@[iphone's ip or hostname]:~ /media/ipod #using the root account

just remember the default password for jailbroken root accounts is “alpine” (remember to change it!)

I have to admit for an electric car the Model S is a very sexy car and it’s sorta an affordable when thinking of maintenance in the long run. To me, it’s looks like a mix between Jaguar’s XF (the back in particular) and Aston Martin’s DB9 front while being it’s own with the LEDs on the headlights. Jalopnik.com is reporting the cost to be 49.9K with the tax deductions which good because it will compete against current hybrids and with a 300 mile radius per charge and a 0-60mph of 5.5secs it’s rather worth it . According to the article it can be “partially charge in just 45 minutes.” Even though, “partially” isn’t defined, hopefully we can assume it’s at least a quarter charge of the 300 (60miles perhaps?)

I came in today at work and I was wondering why is the NAS is always full at my research lab…I came to realize that I was contributing to the problem and not helping it…

But no matter I can figure this out haha.

cd #to go back to the home directory from where ever you were

sudo du -hs #sudo for files in home dir that you can't read and -hs for summary and to humanize file sizes

yeah….29GB’s is a lot for a home folder,
So just check use the next command to see what folders are taking how much space in your home folder

du -h --max-depth=1 ~ #to see only the folders in your dir at level 1

Funny enough it turned out that space of that was taking up in my case, was some satellite granules, vmware installs, and backups. So conserve space responsibility!!! (Kinda like an alcohol commerial with out the booze)
